1. Why am I waking up with a dry mouth or stuffy nose?
- Solution: This is often due to a lack of humidity or air escaping through your mouth.
- Increase Humidity: Adjust the Humidity Level setting in the "My Options" menu.
- Check Your Mask: If you use a nasal or nasal pillow mask and breathe through your mouth, try a chin strap or switch to a full face mask.
- Use Heated Tubing: If you have it, the optional ClimateLineAir™ heated tube can provide more consistent humidity and prevent "rainout" (condensation).
2. Why is there water in my mask or tubing (rainout)?
- Solution: Condensation forms when the air cools down on its way from the humidifier to the mask.
- Use Heated Tubing: If you are not already, use the ClimateLineAir™ heated tube, which helps keep the air warm.
- Adjust Settings: If using the heated tube, ensure Climate Control is on Auto. If you're using a standard tube, you may need to slightly lower the Humidity Level or raise the temperature if you have the heated tube in Manual mode.
- Position the Machine: Keep the machine lower than the bed to allow gravity to prevent water from running into the tube and mask.
3. Why does the pressure feel too high when I'm trying to fall asleep?
- Solution: The machine has comfort features to address this.
- Check AutoRamp™: The AutoRamp feature starts at a low pressure and gradually increases to your prescribed pressure once it detects you've fallen asleep. Make sure it is enabled.
- Enable/Adjust EPR™: Expiratory Pressure Relief (EPR™) gently lowers the pressure as you breathe out, which makes exhaling against the pressure feel more natural. You can adjust the level in "My Options."
4. My mask is leaking air, what should I do?
- Solution: Air leaks reduce therapy effectiveness and can cause noise or eye irritation.
- Check Fit: Ensure the mask is fitted correctly—snug, but not overly tight. Over-tightening can deform the cushion and cause more leaks.
- Use Mask Fit Check: Go to the Run Mask Fit option in the "My Options" menu. The device blows air, and you can adjust the mask until you get a "Good" result.
- Inspect Mask Parts: Check your cushion and headgear for wear, cracks, or tears and replace them if needed.
5. Why is my device still blowing air after I press stop?
- Solution: This is normal. The AirSense 10 continues to blow a small amount of air for about 20 minutes after you stop therapy. This is a cooling-down period to help prevent condensation and protect the device's internal components.
6. How do I turn the screen back on when it's black?
- Solution: The screen goes black to save power (Power Save mode) and avoid disrupting a dark room. Simply press the Home button or the dial to turn the screen back on.
7. How do I clean my machine and accessories?
- Daily: Empty the water from the humidifier tub and wipe it dry.
- Weekly:
- Humidifier Tub & Air Tubing: Wash in warm water using a mild detergent, rinse thoroughly, and allow to air dry out of direct sunlight. The humidifier tub may be dishwasher-safe on the top shelf (check the user guide).
- Mask: Refer to your specific mask's user guide for cleaning the cushion and frame.
- Regularly: The air filter (located on the side of the machine) should be checked and replaced approximately every six months or sooner if it looks dirty or clogged.
8. What does the green or snowflake icon on the screen mean?
- Green Signal Icon: Indicates the device's wireless signal strength for transmitting therapy data to your care provider.
- Snowflake Light/Icon (on Humidifier): Indicates that the humidifier plate is cooling down after therapy.
- Water Droplet Icon (warming): Indicates the humidifier plate is warming up before or during therapy.
9. Can I take my AirSense 10 on a plane?
- Yes. The AirSense 10 is designed to be travel-friendly. It is generally considered a medical device and can be carried on without counting as a carry-on item. You should check with your airline beforehand and ensure the device is in Airplane Mode during the flight (found in "My Options").
10. What is the difference between the AirSense 10 AutoSet and the AirSense 10 Elite/CPAP?
- AutoSet: An auto-adjusting CPAP (APAP) machine that automatically changes the air pressure throughout the night based on your breathing needs (auto-titrating).
- Elite/CPAP: A fixed-pressure CPAP machine that delivers a single, set air pressure throughout the night, prescribed by your doctor. The AutoSet is often chosen for its ability to adapt to changing needs, like different sleep positions or illness.
